We recommend that clients use the two tests simultaneously in order to achieve greater sensitivity and reliability with the results, particularly with regard to negative results. Each test serves as a counter check with the other test by targeting a different indicator organism.

The Pig Bacteroidetes ID™ service uses PCR DNA technology to determine the presence of pig fecal contamination. The service targets fecal Bacteroidetes that are found in pigs.
The Pig Fecal Virus ID™ service uses a DNA analytical technology called reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). This rapid turnaround service (results in a little as 2 working days) detects the presence of swine fecal contamination and swine viruses (i.e. teschoviruses).
